Kas is a Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter, producer, and event curator from St. Louis, Missouri. Their use of raw bedroom vocals, pensive ambience, organic instruments, and Black archival sound form an emergent interpretation of R&B, electronic, and neo-soul music that offers free contemplative space for those historically barred from dreaming. Their eclectic sonic vault and humanizing visuals ooze communal musings on love, loss, and liberation plucked from the outskirts of power. Their music, live performances, and short films center lineages of personal and political transformation from “the rest of us,” grounded in place, sentience, truth, and resistance.
Kas’s discography is deeply inspired by the expansive sounds of D’Angelo, Frank Ocean, Outkast, Tracy Chapman, Don Toliver, A Tribe Called Quest, Chris Stapleton, Amy Winehouse, among many others. As an experienced performer of over a decade, Kas has engaged thousands of in-person crowds of through independent venue showcases, public parks, cultural institutions, universities, and private gatherings. Their talents have led them to a variety of stages, including castings for NBC’s The Voice, renowned venues such as The Bowery Electric, and cultural organizing spaces such as Brooklyn Arts Council, The Laundromat Project, and The New School in New York.
From listening in the cradle to raiding their mother’s cavernous CD collection, to picking up a guitar and producing original music, their artistic journey has taken them all over the map. And this is only the beginning.
